The Belize Red Cross (hereafter referred to as The BRC) is one of the 186 member National Societies that comprise The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (hereafter referred to as The IFRC) the world’s largest humanitarian organization. The National Societies & the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) make up the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The unique network of National Societies is the IFRC’s principal strength giving the appropriate know-how to develop local capacities and assist those most in need, reaching into the smallest & most vulnerable communities. National Societies act as auxiliaries to the government authorities in their own countries, running in-country programs that respond to local needs in times of disaster and in times of peace. Disaster preparedness, health and development work strengthen the capacities of The National Society and through them individual people.

The Belize Red Cross has its headquarters at 1 Gabourel Lane, Belize City and is supported by 8 branch offices in the 6 districts of the country. 1 member from each branch sits on The Central Committee which is a body of candidates elected every four years. All policy is approved by the Central Committee, ratified by the General Assembly, with implementation ensured by The Director General through the Headquarters and the Branches.
