Social Assistance Programs

For many years the Belize Red Cross has been assisting families affected by fire. This is carried out in our auxiliary role to the Ministry of Human Services. However, the assistance is made possible only through the kindness of other donors like the general public who donates clothing and household items and the IFRC and USAID who donates relief items.

For some 3 years now, through the kind donations of wheelchairs from the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints, the Belize Red Cross has been able to provide assistance to physically challenged people, giving them the joy of experiencing some degree of independence.

A weekly “soup kitchen” continues to be conducted at the Headquarters each Wednesday. An average of 90 persons, elderly, sick and less privileged enjoy a hearty cup of soup, bread and often receive clothing. When donations are made available, they also receive groceries or hygiene items.

Social AssistanceThe Belmopan Branch has for over twenty years been conducting a feeding program for school children in the area. One of their main sponsors is the International Women Group, to whom we express our sincere gratitude. The Dangriga Branch also conducts a weekly feeding program for school children, for which often the branch volunteers provide from their personal finances. Belize Red Cross gives thanks to the Dangriga Branch and their volunteers for this selfless gesture.
